The Argonne, a small natural region in the heart of the Grand Est region, has now gained entry into the heart of Europe.
The association Europäische Goethe-Wege e.V. / European Goethe Ways held its annual general meeting on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Frankfurt am Main. The Argonne-based association “Les Amis de la Route de Goethe : 1792,” of which I am president, has been a member for two years now.
We welcomed new members:
AK BarockStrasse SaarPfalz, Verein Tourismuseum (Switzerland), Wetzlarer Goethe-Gesellschaft, and the city of Carlsbad/Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic).
Several highlights marked the two-day meeting, including visits to the Museum of Romanticism and Goethe’s family home, both located on the same site.
During the general assembly, exchanges of news and updates related to Goethe, among all the European countries represented, were rich and highly inspiring.
For our part, we provided an update on the French itinerary, indicating that we are finalizing our project and planning an official inauguration in 2027.
Of note are a remarkable exhibition in Ilmenau this year, as well as preparations for a joint European day dedicated to the Goethe-Weg.
We also proposed that our next general assembly be held in Argonne—why not in Valmy?
Finally, we paid our respects to Mr. Jérémie Peyron, Deputy Consul General in Frankfurt. We presented the European association to him in the presence of its director, Daniela Stefanie Hauf, and retraced the origins of our project in France.
A cultural project aimed at strengthening Franco-German relations, encompassing economic, cultural, educational—even intellectual—dimensions, inspired by an exceptional figure, European ahead of his time: J.W. von Goethe.
